Mission Statement
Fayette County complies with Pennsylvania's New Right To Know Law, which took effect January 1, 2009 and which guarantees citizens access to public records of governmental agencies, as defined by law.
This page was developed for public use and it is urged that you take the time to familarize yourself with the LINKS below. The LINKS are a valuable tool for understanding the new law and accessing public records.
On December 18, 2008 the Fayette County Board of Commissioners appointed an Open-Records Officer, adopted the state-based Fee Structure and also approved a Guide. Howoever, on April 23, 2009, by a 2-1 vote the Board of Commissioners increased the copy fee from .10 to .25 cents.
All requests for access to public records, under Pennsylvania's New Right To Know Law, are to be directed to the Open-Records Officer, as named above.
The Guide included a Policy and Procedure specific to Fayette County and in accordance with state law, however, the Policy and Procedure was not adopted. It is anticipated that the Policy and Procedure will be adopted at an upcoming Commissioners Meeting for public use to assist in accessing public records.
If you wish to have access to a public record, as defined under the law, please complete the Right To Know Request, as shown below.
Requests for a public record made in person will be filled, however, to take advantage of the appeal process requests must be in writing.
Fayette County will fulfill verbal, written or anonymous verbal or written requests for access to public records, however, if the requestor wishes to pursue the relief and remedies provided under the Act, the request for access to records must be a written request.

If you wish to view public records, the Open-Records Officer will make those records available for public inspection, at no-charge.
